Mandated price cuts in the business data services market will do “serious damage” to the financial underpinnings of both competitive and facilities-based providers, with the latter taking the greatest hit, according to a new paper by analyst Anna-Maria Kovacs, visiting scholar with the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy. Kovacs created an economic model to measure the potential impact of price regulation that the Federal Communications Commission is considering imposing on the market.


While broadband internet adoption has been growing over the past two decades and the digital divide has been closing rapidly in recent years, there remains a group of non-adopters who may not be easily converted, according to NTIA's July 2015 Computer and Internet Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey. USTelecom enthusiastically supports efforts to increase broadband adoption by bringing more Americans online.

We have come a long way from the paper-and-ink pamphlets of the Founding Fathers and the street-corner oratory of our great-grandfathers. Broadband networks have become the digital gateway for the 21st century, allowing Americans access to countless new media sites and ways to participate in debates.


Tech pundits are fond of predicting that new internet-based media options will supplant the old. All the cords will soon be cut. NBC will give way to Netflix. Gamers will all be watching ESPN on their PlayStations.

Data shows that when Americans access news, information or entertainment, however, it’s not a zero-sum affair.


Some things are better together: peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (oops). Among American tech consumers, there is an emerging “better together” --  television and broadband.
