USTelecom’s upcoming webinar, Telco Transformation – Voice Moves to the Cloud, scheduled this Thursday, March 26, will focus on cloud-based VoIP opportunities, which last year exceeded $70 billion in fixed voice services in North America alone. This area is a key component of the growing cloud marketplace, which, according to a recent Microsoft-commissioned study, will also be driven by an array of services.
The study, conducted by 451 Research, finds that 70 percent of cloud opportunities for providers will comprise:
- Application hosting, such as email and business applications;
- Managed services, including backup and disaster recovery;
- Security services, such as threat management.
In addition, this research demonstrates how cloud service providers are building on infrastructure, expanding it to include a wider array of offerings. “More than 75 percent of customers are now beyond the cloud discovery phase and [we] expect that in three years, almost half of their applications will be deployed in a combination of private and public cloud environments,” noted Microsoft’s Aziz Benmalek. “This presents a significant opportunity for our service provider partners to provide value-added services to their customers. By offering these expanded services, cloud service providers will be able to drive additional consumption, increase revenue and serve as trusted advisors.”
The previous USTelecom webinar (now available for viewing on-demand), Mission-Critical Applications in the Cloud? Yes! highlights how companies are seizing these opportunities by integrating mission critical applications in the cloud. Meanwhile, a recent article appearing in FierceTelecom makes clear industry leaders, such as Cisco are leading the way in the public cloud infrastructure market — providing a crucial backbone for emerging cloud services.
"We are seeing strong growth across private, public and hybrid cloud deployments and across all geographic regions," said Jeremy Duke, Synergy Research Group's founder and chief analyst, on the organization’s outlook for the cloud ecosystem.
